pottery and ceramics handicraft exhibition

In this new exhibition we will have two artists, artisans, who will occupy the area dedicated to exhibitions at Mercearia Bio Café de Lagos.

Vanessa Carrasco, born in Lisbon, who in 2020, began to dedicate herself to what was until then a passion: ceramics. The taste and curiosity for ceramics, for molding pieces with her own hands, was something that had been waiting for many years to be validated.
Finally, in 2020, with so much time spent at home and the need to create different moments and things, it was the right time to order a block of clay and get her hands dirty.

The experience was so rewarding that, shortly after, she started taking classes. The desire to make different pieces, to experiment and venture into this area, led her to create, at the beginning of 2023, Saramica. National materials are her first option, because it is important to value the Portuguese industry and minimize the ecological footprint. The brand's description is “Ceramics with intention”, because the ceramist's main motivation is to create pieces that intentionally add something to a simple moment in the daily life of those who use them. Whether due to the irregular and unique shapes of the pieces, or due to the message it may have engraved.

Cristiano Christillin was born in Turin, Italy, where he attended the Turin Faculty of Architecture and took several courses in graphic design and photography. He worked as an architectural photographer in several countries, collaborating with several architecture and design magazines.

In 2007 he moved to Portugal and in 2017 he settled in the Algarve.Crafts have always been a very strong focus of interest. His first contacts with the art of pottery took place in Italy, but it was in Portugal that he truly began to learn traditional pottery techniques, first with several master potters and then as a self-taught artist. His area of interest is mainly traditional and utilitarian pottery. The main concept that underpins his work is the recovery and conservation of traditional manual labor techniques, understood as a cultural wealth that must be preserved and taken forward, not only at the level of production of decorative objects but also and above all of objects for everyday use, enjoying the physical and chemical qualities of natural clay, so that artisanal work can become not only a memory but once again part of people's daily lives.

The exhibition will be open from October 7th, at Mercearia Bio Café de Lagos. Visit us!
